Sony WH-1000XM6 — New Flagship Headphones with AI Noise Cancellation
Sound, ANC, and battery life tested. Are they worth upgrading from the XM5, and how do they stack up against AirPods Max?

Sony WH-1000XM6 — the long-awaited follow-up to a legendary lineup. After two years of waiting, Sony has finally released new flagship headphones, and they’re a pleasant surprise.
Design and Comfort
Sony kept the recognizable form factor but made the headband slimmer and lighter. Weight dropped to 250 g — an excellent figure for full-size headphones. Soft eco-leather ear pads don’t press on your ears even after hours of use.
Sound
The XM6 sound is all about detail. New 40 mm drivers deliver a clean, spacious audio with deep bass and crystal-clear highs. LDAC and DSEE Extreme support makes them ideal for Hi-Res audio.
Noise Cancellation
The headline feature is AI-adaptive ANC. The headphones automatically adjust the level of noise cancellation to your surroundings. Maximum on the subway, minimum at home. It works impressively well.
Battery Life
30 hours with ANC on and 40 hours without it. Quick charging gives you 3 hours of playback from just 3 minutes of plugging in.
Verdict
✅ Pros:
- Best ANC on the market
- Excellent sound quality
- Comfortable for extended wear
- Fast charging
❌ Cons:
- Higher price than competitors
- No water resistance
Rating: ⭐ 4.7 / 5
